Nela Park

Nela Park is an industrial park located in East Cleveland, Ohio, United States. It is the headquarters of GE Lighting, a Savant company, and is historically significant as the world's first industrial park dedicated to lighting research and manufacturing. Opened in 1911, Nela Park was originally developed by the National Electric Lamp Association (NELA), which was later absorbed by General Electric (GE).

The campus-like setting was designed to promote innovation and collaboration amongst its employees. Its architecture is notable for its eclectic mix of styles inspired by famous buildings and gardens around the world. These architectural choices were deliberate, intended to create a stimulating and inspiring environment for lighting research and design.

Throughout the 20th century, Nela Park was at the forefront of lighting technology, contributing significantly to the development of incandescent lamps, fluorescent lighting, and other advanced lighting systems. It served as a central hub for GE's lighting business, encompassing research and development, manufacturing, marketing, and administrative functions.

In recent years, Nela Park has undergone changes due to shifts in the lighting industry and the sale of GE Lighting to Savant Systems in 2020. While still operating as the headquarters of GE Lighting, a Savant company, its role and focus within the broader lighting landscape have evolved. The site remains a significant landmark in the history of lighting technology and industrial development.
