Nam Shan (Sai Kung District)
Nam Shan (南山) is an area located in the Sai Kung District of Hong Kong. It refers specifically to a mountainous region and surrounding area within the Sai Kung East Country Park.
Geographically, Nam Shan is characterized by its hilly terrain and relatively undeveloped landscape. It offers hiking trails and scenic views of the surrounding countryside and coastline, including Long Harbour (赤徑口).
The area is popular with hikers and outdoor enthusiasts seeking a less crowded and more natural environment compared to other parts of Hong Kong. Several trails traverse Nam Shan, connecting to other areas within Sai Kung East Country Park, such as Pak Tam Chung and Tai Long Wan.
Access to Nam Shan is primarily by public transport (bus or minibus) to nearby villages like Pak Tam Chung, followed by hiking. There are no major residential or commercial developments directly within Nam Shan itself, helping to preserve its natural character. Its proximity to Sai Kung Town provides convenient access to amenities and transportation links.
Nam Shan translates literally to "South Mountain" in Cantonese, a common place name, and should not be confused with other locations in Hong Kong with the same or similar names.
