Muya (river)

The Muya is a river in eastern Siberia, Russia. It is a left tributary of the Vitim River, part of the Lena River basin. The Muya flows through the Buryatia Republic and the Zabaykalsky Krai.

The river is approximately 365 kilometers (227 miles) long. Its source is located in the Kodar Mountains. The Muya flows generally southwest through a mountainous and sparsely populated area, eventually joining the Vitim.

The Muya River is known for its challenging rapids and is popular among experienced whitewater kayakers and rafters. The surrounding terrain is characterized by taiga forests and permafrost. The climate in the region is subarctic, with long, cold winters and short, mild summers. Fishing is a common activity along the river, with species such as grayling and lenok being found. The BAM (Baikal-Amur Mainline) railway runs along a portion of the Muya valley.
