Mitcham
Mitcham is a suburban district in south London, England, within the London Borough of Merton. Historically part of Surrey, it is situated on the River Wandle, approximately 7.2 miles (11.6 km) southwest of Charing Cross.
Mitcham's history dates back to the Anglo-Saxon period, and it is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It developed as a village known for its lavender fields, market gardens, and industry, including the manufacture of textiles, snuff, and paint. The area experienced significant growth in the 19th and 20th centuries with the arrival of the railways and suburban expansion.
Notable features of Mitcham include Mitcham Common, a large area of open green space, and Mitcham Cricket Green, one of the oldest cricket grounds in England.
