Miss America (Madeline Joyce)

Miss America (Madeline Joyce) is a fictional superheroine appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics during the Golden Age of Comic Books. Created by editor Otto Binder and artist Al Gabriele, she first appeared in Marvel Mystery Comics #49 (November 1943), published by Timely Comics, the 1940s precursor to Marvel.

Madeline Joyce was a young woman who gained superhuman abilities after being accidentally exposed to radiation from a device created by her uncle, a scientist named Dr. Lawson. These abilities included flight, super strength, and invulnerability. Initially, she fought crime in secret, using her powers to help those in need.

During World War II, Miss America became a prominent member of the All-Winners Squad, a superhero team that included Captain America, the Human Torch, the Sub-Mariner, and other Timely Comics heroes. She fought alongside them against Axis forces and other threats to national security.

After the war, Miss America continued to appear in comics for a short time before fading into obscurity. In later Marvel Comics publications, she was reintroduced and her history was expanded upon. Notably, she married Robert Frank (the superhero known as the Whizzer) and became the mother of Nuklo, a mutant with radioactive powers. Her death was attributed to radiation poisoning caused by Nuklo's powers.

Miss America (Madeline Joyce) has since been referenced and occasionally revisited in modern Marvel Comics stories, often in connection to her son and her legacy as one of the first female superheroes. Her character represents an early example of female empowerment in the comic book industry and remains a significant figure in Marvel's Golden Age history.
