Mirrors (2008 film)
Mirrors is a 2008 American supernatural horror film directed by Alexandre Aja and starring Kiefer Sutherland, Paula Patton, and Amy Smart. It is a remake of the 2003 South Korean horror film Into the Mirror.
The film follows Ben Carson (Sutherland), a troubled former NYPD detective, who takes a job as a night security guard at the Mayflower department store, which was destroyed by a fire years earlier. While patrolling the dilapidated building, he discovers that the mirrors within possess a sinister presence. He begins to see disturbing images reflected in them and soon realizes that these reflections are not mere illusions.
As Ben investigates the mirrors, he learns about the history of the Mayflower and its connection to a psychiatric hospital that once stood on the same site. He discovers a malevolent entity trapped within the mirrors, which seeks to escape and exact revenge. This entity threatens Ben and his family, blurring the line between reality and reflection.
The film explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the power of the subconscious. It is known for its graphic violence, disturbing imagery, and psychological suspense. The film received mixed reviews upon its release, with critics praising the atmosphere and Sutherland's performance but criticizing the plot's predictability and excessive gore. A direct-to-video sequel, Mirrors 2, was released in 2010.
