Ministry of Culture and Sports (Kazakhstan)

The Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazakh: Қазақстан Республикасының Мәдениет және спорт министрлігі; Russian: Министерство культуры и спорта Республики Казахстан) is a central executive body of the Government of Kazakhstan responsible for the development and implementation of state policy in the fields of culture, sports, tourism, interethnic harmony, language development, archiving, and the protection and use of historical and cultural heritage.

The Ministry's responsibilities encompass a broad range of activities, including:

  • Culture: Supporting and promoting the arts, including theater, music, literature, and visual arts. This includes funding cultural institutions, organizing festivals, and preserving cultural heritage.
  • Sports: Developing and implementing policies to promote physical activity and sports at all levels, from amateur to professional. This includes supporting national sports teams, organizing sports events, and developing sports infrastructure.
  • Tourism: Promoting Kazakhstan as a tourist destination and developing the tourism industry. This includes developing tourism infrastructure, marketing Kazakhstan's attractions, and regulating the tourism sector.
  • Interethnic Harmony: Promoting understanding and cooperation between different ethnic groups in Kazakhstan. This includes supporting cultural events, language programs, and initiatives that promote tolerance and respect.
  • Language Development: Developing and implementing policies to promote the use and development of the Kazakh language. This includes supporting language training programs, developing language resources, and promoting the use of the Kazakh language in government and business.
  • Archiving: Managing and preserving the national archives of Kazakhstan.
  • Historical and Cultural Heritage: Protecting and preserving historical and cultural monuments and sites. This includes identifying and cataloging historical and cultural assets, developing conservation plans, and enforcing regulations to protect these assets.

The Ministry is headed by a Minister appointed by the President of Kazakhstan. The Ministry works closely with other government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to achieve its goals. The Ministry's activities are funded by the state budget.
