Nijverdal
Nijverdal is a town in the municipality of Hellendoorn, in the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. Situated along the Sallandse Heuvelrug (Salland Ridge), Nijverdal developed from a small settlement to a significant industrial center during the 19th century.
History:
The history of Nijverdal is closely linked to the establishment of the Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij (Netherlands Trading Society) in 1833. This company sought a location with readily available resources, including peat for fuel, to establish a textile factory. The area that would become Nijverdal was chosen, and the factory, known as the "Stoomweverij" (Steam Weaving Mill), spurred rapid growth. The name "Nijverdal" itself, meaning "Industry Valley," reflects this industrial origin.
