Mayuge
Mayuge is a town located in the Eastern Region of Uganda. It is the administrative center and largest town of Mayuge District.
Location and Geography
Mayuge is situated approximately 35 kilometers (22 miles) southwest of Iganga, the nearest large town, on the highway to Jinja. Its geographical coordinates are approximately 0°26'42.0"N 33°34'02.0"E (Latitude: 0.4450; Longitude: 33.5672). The area is characterized by a tropical climate and fertile agricultural land.
Demographics
While precise current population figures are subject to change, Mayuge serves as a significant commercial and residential hub within the district. The population is primarily engaged in agriculture, trade, and services.
Economy
Agriculture is the mainstay of the Mayuge economy. Common crops include maize, beans, cassava, and bananas. Fishing along the shores of Lake Victoria, which borders the district, also contributes significantly to the local economy. Trade and small businesses thrive in the town center.
