USS Conemaugh (1862)
USS Conemaugh was a wooden-hulled, screw steamer that served in the United States Navy during the American Civil War. She was built in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1862.
Conemaugh was commissioned into the Union Navy in September 1862 and assigned to the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron. Her primary duty was to enforce the Union blockade of Confederate ports along the southeastern coast of the United States, preventing supplies from reaching the Confederacy and hindering their ability to wage war.
Throughout the war, Conemaugh participated in numerous operations, including the capture of blockade runners and the shelling of Confederate positions. She was actively involved in the bombardment of Fort McAllister, Georgia, in late 1862 and early 1863.
After the Civil War, Conemaugh was decommissioned in August 1865. She was subsequently sold into private ownership and operated as a merchant vessel. The later history of the vessel is not well-documented.
