Maydena

Maydena is a small town located in the Derwent Valley of Tasmania, Australia. It is situated approximately 85 kilometers northwest of Hobart.

History: Maydena's history is closely tied to the forestry industry. The town was established to support logging operations and the Australian Newsprint Mills (ANM) pulp and paper mill at Boyer, downstream on the Derwent River. The town's name is believed to derive from an Aboriginal word.

Economy: Historically, the economy of Maydena was almost entirely reliant on forestry. However, in recent years, with the decline of the forestry industry, Maydena has been transitioning towards tourism.

Tourism: The town is gaining popularity as a base for outdoor activities, particularly mountain biking. Maydena Bike Park, a world-class gravity mountain bike park, has significantly boosted tourism to the area.
