Maroof

Maroof (Arabic: معروف) is an Arabic term signifying "well-known," "recognized," "good," "virtuous," "lawful," "approved," or "customary." It embodies concepts of that which is commonly known and accepted as morally and socially appropriate within a given community, particularly in accordance with Islamic principles.

In Islamic contexts, maroof often refers to actions, behaviors, or qualities that are considered righteous and praiseworthy according to Islamic law (Sharia) and tradition. It is frequently used in conjunction with the term munkar (Arabic: منكر), which represents that which is unknown, unrecognized, evil, or forbidden. The Quran frequently encourages believers to enjoin the maroof (commanding the good) and forbid the munkar (forbidding the evil) as a core tenet of their faith. This concept emphasizes the importance of promoting virtue and preventing vice within society.
