María Dueñas (violinist)
María Dueñas (born 2002 or 2003) is a Spanish violinist. She is recognized for her exceptional talent, technical skill, and musical maturity.
Dueñas began playing the violin at a young age and quickly demonstrated prodigious abilities. She studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo and later at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she was a student of Boris Kuschnir. She also attended the Menuhin International Academy in Switzerland.
Dueñas has won numerous international competitions, including the Menuhin Competition Geneva 2021, where she won First Prize and the Audience Prize. She also won the First Prize at the Vladimir Spivakov International Violin Competition in 2018, and the Getting to Carnegie Hall International Music Competition in 2016.
She has performed as a soloist with major orchestras around the world, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, the Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Dresden Philharmonic. She collaborates with renowned conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Manfred Honeck, and Marek Janowski.
Dueñas's repertoire spans a wide range of violin literature, from Baroque to contemporary works. She is known for her interpretations of composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Tchaikovsky. She is also a champion of new music and has premiered works by contemporary composers.
She currently plays on the Stradivarius "Niccolò Gagliano" violin, generously on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.
