Mannequin (1987 film)

Mannequin is a 1987 American romantic comedy film directed by Michael Gottlieb. The film stars Andrew McCarthy as Jonathan Switcher, a failed artist who discovers a mannequin he created is actually a reincarnated Egyptian princess named Emmy, played by Kim Cattrall.

The plot revolves around Jonathan landing a job as a stock boy at a struggling department store. When he recreates Emmy as a mannequin, she comes to life, but only when he's around. He uses her to revitalize the store's window displays, turning the failing business into a success. Their growing relationship is threatened by the store's skeptical security guard, Captain Felix Maxwell (played by Meshach Taylor), who is determined to prove Jonathan is crazy, and by competitors trying to sabotage their success.

The film is known for its 1980s soundtrack, including the hit song "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics at the time of its release, Mannequin was a commercial success and has since become a cult classic. The film was followed by a sequel, Mannequin Two: On the Move, released in 1991, which did not feature McCarthy or Gottlieb.
