Main Street (Queens)
Main Street is a major north-south thoroughfare in the borough of Queens, New York City. It runs approximately 7 miles (11 km) from Queens Boulevard in Briarwood to Willets Point Boulevard near Citi Field in Flushing.
The street is particularly notable for its diverse commercial character, especially in Flushing, where it serves as the heart of one of the largest Chinatowns in New York City and is a major center for Asian commerce. Main Street is characterized by a high volume of pedestrian traffic, especially between Northern Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue.
Historically, Main Street was part of the original colonial road network on Long Island. Over time, it developed from a primarily residential street into a significant commercial corridor, reflecting the growth and demographic changes of Queens.
Public transportation along Main Street is robust, with several bus routes operating along its length. The 7 train of the New York City Subway terminates at Main Street in Flushing, providing a vital connection to Manhattan.
The northern end of Main Street is near Flushing Bay and the area around Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. The southern end intersects with Queens Boulevard, a major east-west artery.
