Madurodam

Madurodam is a miniature park and tourist attraction located in The Hague, Netherlands. It contains scaled reproductions of famous Dutch landmarks, historical buildings, and infrastructure projects, built to a scale of 1:25.

The park was opened in 1952 and named in memory of George Maduro, a Jewish law student and member of the Dutch resistance who died in Dachau concentration camp during World War II. Madurodam was conceived as a living war memorial and a source of funds for the Netherlands Student Sanatorium Foundation (Nederlands Studenten Sanatorium).

The miniature structures are meticulously crafted and often include working models of canals, railways, and harbors, showcasing Dutch engineering and architectural achievements. Visitors can interact with some of the exhibits by inserting coins to activate them.

Over the years, Madurodam has been continuously updated and expanded to include new landmarks and reflect the changing landscape of the Netherlands. It attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, both domestic and international, and remains a popular destination for families and tourists interested in exploring Dutch culture and history in a unique and engaging way. The park serves not only as a recreational venue but also as an educational tool, allowing visitors to learn about Dutch heritage and infrastructure. The revenue generated continues to support charitable causes.
