Jerlun (federal constituency)
Jerlun is a federal constituency located in Kedah, Malaysia. It has been represented in the Dewan Rakyat, the lower house of the Malaysian Parliament, since 2004.
The constituency was created in the 2003 redistribution and is mandated to return a single member to Parliament using the first-past-the-post voting system.
Jerlun is primarily a rural constituency, characterized by agricultural activities and small towns. It is considered a politically significant seat in Kedah. The boundaries of the constituency are periodically reviewed and may change during electoral redistributions. The current state assembly constituencies within the Jerlun parliamentary seat are expected to be updated and confirmed closer to future elections.
Historically, the political landscape of Jerlun has seen competition between various political parties in Malaysia, most notably UMNO (United Malays National Organisation), a component party of Barisan Nasional, and parties within the Pakatan Harapan coalition. The results of general elections in Jerlun reflect the shifting political sentiments of the electorate.
The Member of Parliament for Jerlun plays a key role in representing the interests of the constituents in the Dewan Rakyat, advocating for policies and initiatives that benefit the local community. They are also responsible for allocating resources and addressing local issues within the constituency.
