Luzenac

Luzenac is a commune in the Ariège department in southwestern France. It is located in the Pyrenees mountains.

Historically, Luzenac is known for its talc quarry, one of the largest in the world. The quarry has been a significant employer in the region and has shaped the local economy for many years.

Luzenac experienced increased attention in the early 2010s due to its local football club, Luzenac AP (Ariège Pyrénées), which achieved promotion to Ligue 2, the second tier of French football, in 2014. However, the club was subsequently denied entry to the league due to stadium issues and financial concerns, leading to significant controversy and ultimately the club's dissolution.

The commune is characterized by its mountainous terrain and rural setting. Its population is relatively small.
