Luis Leal (baseball)
Luis Leal is a former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1980 to 1988 for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Leal was signed by the Blue Jays as an amateur free agent in 1976. He made his MLB debut on September 4, 1980. Throughout his career, Leal was primarily a starting pitcher. He had a career record of 50 wins and 54 losses, with an earned run average (ERA) of 4.20. He pitched 834.2 innings over 177 games, starting 117 of those games.
Leal's best season was arguably 1983, when he went 15-8 with a 3.90 ERA. He also pitched a shutout that year. He was known for his fastball and curveball combination. After his MLB career, Leal continued to play baseball in the Mexican League.
