Love Song (band)

Love Song was an American contemporary Christian music band active primarily in the 1970s. They are considered one of the pioneering groups in the Jesus music movement and are known for their soft rock and folk-influenced sound with overtly Christian lyrics.

The band was formed in Southern California in 1970. Original members included Chuck Girard, Tommy Coomes, Jay Truax, and Phil Keaggy. Keaggy departed in 1972 to pursue a solo career and was replaced by John Wickham. Love Song's music often dealt with themes of faith, love, and discipleship. Their debut album, Love Song, released in 1972, is considered a landmark album in the Jesus music genre. Other notable albums include Welcome Back and Feel the Love.

Love Song's influence extended beyond their musical output. They helped to legitimize contemporary Christian music and paved the way for future generations of Christian artists. Their music was widely popular in Christian circles and helped to bridge the gap between traditional church music and contemporary rock. While the band disbanded in the late 1970s, their music continues to be appreciated and remembered for its sincerity and impact on the development of contemporary Christian music. Several reunion concerts have taken place over the years featuring various members of the original lineup.
