Louis Leschi

Louis Leschi (born November 18, 1893, in Mustapha, Algeria; died February 20, 1954, in Algiers, Algeria) was a French archaeologist, historian, and epigrapher specializing in Roman North Africa, particularly Algeria. He is best known for his extensive work on Roman irrigation systems and infrastructure in North Africa, as well as his contributions to the understanding of Roman agricultural practices in the region.

Leschi pursued his academic studies in Algiers and Paris. His research involved fieldwork, archaeological excavations, and the meticulous study of inscriptions, leading to a deep understanding of the economic, social, and political history of Roman North Africa. He held positions at the University of Algiers, where he taught and mentored numerous students.

His publications include numerous articles and books, often focusing on topics such as Roman roads, aqueducts, and agricultural techniques. He also contributed significantly to the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum (CIL), adding to the collection of Latin inscriptions from the Roman world.
