Lamasco

Lamasco is a historic neighborhood located in Evansville, Indiana, USA. It is situated on the city's near north side, bordered roughly by the Lloyd Expressway to the south, Diamond Avenue to the north, U.S. Highway 41 to the east, and the Ohio River to the west.

The name "Lamasco" is believed to be a portmanteau of the words "Law," "McCormick," and "Stocker," representing three prominent families who were early landowners and developers in the area.

Lamasco developed as a distinct community in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, driven by the expansion of industries along the Ohio River. It was once a primarily working-class neighborhood, home to many German immigrants and their descendants. The area was known for its numerous locally owned businesses, including taverns, groceries, and small manufacturers.

In recent years, Lamasco has experienced a period of revitalization, with efforts to preserve its historic character and attract new residents and businesses. The neighborhood is characterized by a mix of residential housing styles, including shotgun houses, bungalows, and larger Victorian-era homes. The Lamasco Business Association actively promotes the commercial interests of the area. While historically a distinct entity, Lamasco is now an integral part of the larger city of Evansville.
