Lakeside (electoral district)
Lakeside is a former provincial electoral district in Manitoba, Canada. It existed in two distinct periods: from 1870 to 1914, and again from 1958 to 2019.
History (1870-1914)
The original Lakeside district was one of the 12 districts created for the first provincial election in 1870. Its boundaries changed several times during its initial existence. It was abolished in 1914.
History (1958-2019)
The electoral district was recreated in 1958, and it existed continuously until its dissolution in 2019. Lakeside was located in the Interlake region of Manitoba, northwest of Winnipeg. Its borders typically included communities such as Stonewall, Argyle, and Teulon. Over the years, boundary revisions shifted the communities within the district slightly.
Representation
Throughout its history, Lakeside was represented by Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from various political parties, including the Progressive Conservative Party, the Liberal Party, and the New Democratic Party. The specific MLA and their party affiliation changed from election to election, reflecting the political landscape of Manitoba.
Dissolution
In 2018, as part of a redistribution of electoral districts in Manitoba, the Lakeside electoral district was dissolved. The territory formerly comprising Lakeside was redistributed into the new Interlake-Gimli and Gimli electoral districts, effective for the 2019 Manitoba general election.
