Khoobsurat (1999 film)
Khoobsurat is a 1999 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Sanjay Chhel. The film stars Sanjay Dutt and Urmila Matondkar in the lead roles, with an ensemble supporting cast. It is a remake of the 1980 film of the same name, which starred Rekha.
The plot revolves around Shivangi (Urmila Matondkar), a lively and unconventional woman who is hired as a physiotherapist for the paralyzed husband (Anupam Kher) of a strict and disciplined matriarch, Dayaa (Dina Pathak). Shivangi's free-spirited nature clashes with the rigid rules of the house, leading to humorous situations and ultimately transforming the family dynamics. She also develops a romantic interest in Dayaa's son, Sanjay (Sanjay Dutt), a pilot.
The film's narrative focuses on themes of tradition versus modernity, freedom versus control, and the power of love to overcome obstacles. The musical score, composed by Jatin-Lalit, contributed significantly to the film's popularity, with songs like "Ghoonghat Mein Chaanda" becoming well-known.
Khoobsurat (1999) was a commercial success at the Indian box office. It is remembered for its lighthearted tone, strong performances, and memorable soundtrack. While a remake, it offered a modern interpretation of the original story, appealing to a contemporary audience.
