Ken MacKenzie (baseball)
Ken MacKenzie (born September 10, 1934, in Gore Bay, Ontario, Canada, died April 19, 2024, in Mesa, Arizona) was a Canadian professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1960 to 1965.
MacKenzie began his professional career in 1953 in the Detroit Tigers organization. He didn't reach the major leagues until he was 25 years old, debuting with the Milwaukee Braves in 1960. He was primarily a relief pitcher throughout his career, although he did start some games.
He played for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves (1960-1963), New York Mets (1964), St. Louis Cardinals (1964), and Houston Astros (1965). His best season was arguably 1962 with the Braves, where he pitched 105 innings with a 3.26 ERA.
In his MLB career, MacKenzie appeared in 201 games, posting a record of 13-17 with a 4.08 ERA and 16 saves. He struck out 192 batters in 348 2/3 innings pitched.
After his playing career ended, MacKenzie remained involved in baseball, participating in alumni events and spring training. He was a member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
