Kellia, Cyprus

Kellia (Greek: Κελλιά, Turkish: Yıldırım) is a village located in the Larnaca District of Cyprus. It is situated a few kilometers northwest of Larnaca, near the main road connecting Larnaca to Nicosia.

Historically, Kellia has been inhabited since ancient times, with evidence of human activity dating back to the Neolithic period. The village derives its name from the Greek word "kelli" (κελλί), meaning "cell" or "monk's cell," suggesting the presence of monastic activity in the area during the Byzantine era.

The village economy is primarily agricultural, with the cultivation of olives, carob, grains, and various fruits and vegetables. Animal husbandry also plays a role in the local economy.

Kellia retains a traditional Cypriot character, with narrow streets, traditional houses, and a local community life centered around the village church, typically dedicated to Panagia (the Virgin Mary). Several smaller chapels are also found in the vicinity.

While not a major tourist destination, Kellia offers a glimpse into rural Cypriot life. Visitors may be drawn to the village to experience its traditional atmosphere, visit the local churches, or explore the surrounding countryside.
