Karp (band)
Karp was an American noise rock band from Tumwater, Washington, formed in 1990 and disbanded in 1998. The band consisted of Jared Warren (vocals, bass), Chris Smith (guitar), and Scott Jernigan (drums). Known for their heavy, sludgy sound, aggressive vocals, and high-energy live performances, Karp drew comparisons to bands like The Melvins, Helmet, and Unsane.
Their music often featured a blend of hardcore punk intensity, metal riffing, and a general disregard for conventional song structures. Warren's distinctive vocals, often delivered in a raw, shouted style, were a key element of their sound.
Karp released several EPs and singles on independent labels before releasing two full-length albums: Mustaches Wild (1996) and Rotting Out (1998). Mustaches Wild is perhaps their most well-known and critically acclaimed work.
Despite their relatively short lifespan, Karp gained a cult following within the underground music scene and influenced numerous bands that followed. After Karp disbanded, Jared Warren went on to form Big Business with Coady Willis (also of The Melvins), while other members pursued different musical projects. Karp's discography remains influential for fans of heavy, experimental rock music.
