Karaoke (TV series)

Karaoke is a two-part British television drama written by Dennis Potter, originally broadcast on BBC2 in 1996. It forms, along with Cold Lazarus (broadcast immediately afterwards), Potter's final work, completed shortly before his death. The two pieces feature the same protagonist, Daniel Feeld, though they are distinct and self-contained narratives.

The series focuses on Daniel Feeld (Albert Finney), a screenwriter whose new script, titled "Karaoke," begins to bleed into his own life in unsettling and increasingly dangerous ways. He finds that people and situations from his screenplay are being mirrored in reality, often with dark and menacing undertones.

The plot involves themes of identity, voyeurism, paranoia, and the blurred lines between art and reality. Feeld becomes convinced that he is being manipulated or even gaslighted by powerful figures who are somehow bringing his fictional world into existence. He struggles to maintain his sanity and discern what is real and what is a product of his own imagination.

The cast also includes Saffron Burrows, Hywel Bennett, Keeley Hawes, and Anna Chancellor. The series is known for its complex narrative structure, sharp dialogue, and unsettling atmosphere, typical of Dennis Potter's work.
