Kala Suri
Kala Suri (Sinhala: කලා සූරි) is a national honour of Sri Lanka awarded to individuals for distinguished service in the field of arts. The title translates roughly to "Pride of Art" or "Sun of Art." It is part of the Sri Lankan honours system, established by the Decorations and Honors Act No. 1 of 1981, and conferred by the President of Sri Lanka.
The Kala Suri is bestowed upon individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to various art forms including, but not limited to, visual arts, performing arts, literature, and crafts. Recipients are recognized for their excellence, innovation, and dedication to their respective artistic disciplines, as well as their contribution to the cultural landscape of Sri Lanka. The award recognizes not only artistic talent but also the individual's contribution to promoting and preserving Sri Lankan art and culture.
The awarding of the Kala Suri is typically conducted at a national ceremony.
