KVST-TV
KVST-TV is a defunct television station formerly licensed to Los Angeles, California, broadcasting on UHF channel 68. The station was a subscription television (STV) service operated by SelecTV of California, Inc. It offered a commercial-free programming lineup consisting primarily of movies, sporting events, and specials, requiring viewers to subscribe and rent a decoder to unscramble the signal.
The station first signed on the air in 1977, initially broadcasting a limited schedule of programming before expanding its offerings. KVST-TV was a pioneering effort in the pay television market in Southern California.
The SelecTV service, and by extension KVST-TV, faced increasing competition from cable television and other STV providers. The station ceased broadcasting in 1987, and its license was subsequently surrendered to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The channel 68 allocation in the Los Angeles market is no longer in use.
