Eastern Professional Soccer League (1928–29)

The Eastern Professional Soccer League (EPSL) was a short-lived professional soccer league that operated in the Northeastern United States during the 1928–29 season. Formed as an attempt to consolidate professional soccer in the region, it drew teams primarily from existing leagues and clubs, aiming to provide a higher level of competition and greater stability. However, despite attracting some notable players, the EPSL faced challenges in drawing consistent crowds and maintaining financial stability. The league folded after only one season, with many of its constituent clubs returning to their previous leagues or disbanding altogether. While its existence was brief, the EPSL represents one of the early attempts at establishing a truly professional soccer league in the United States, pre-dating the more successful leagues that would follow in later decades. The league's legacy is largely historical, remembered as a transitional period in the development of American soccer.
