John Watt (politician)

John Watt (born c. 1947) was a Scottish politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for North East Scotland for the Scottish National Party (SNP) from 1987 to 1989.

Watt's political career was primarily centered around agriculture and fisheries, reflecting the importance of these sectors to the North East Scotland region. He was a vocal advocate for the interests of Scottish fishermen and farmers within the European Economic Community (EEC), which later became the European Union.

His tenure as an MEP was relatively short. He resigned from his seat in 1989, citing health reasons. Winnie Ewing succeeded him as the MEP for North East Scotland.

Following his departure from the European Parliament, Watt largely remained out of the public eye. Details regarding his life and career before and after his time as an MEP are limited. He is remembered primarily for his role as an SNP representative in the European Parliament during a period of significant debate regarding the UK's relationship with Europe.
