John Reed (Connecticut politician)
John Reed (born 1781, died 1860) was an American politician who served as the 11th Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut from 1846 to 1847. He was a member of the Whig Party.
Reed was born in Norwalk, Connecticut. He was actively involved in local politics before ascending to statewide office. He held several positions in the Connecticut General Assembly, representing Norwalk. Details about his early life, education, and pre-political career are relatively scarce in readily available historical records.
As Lieutenant Governor, Reed served under Governor Clark Bissell. His term was relatively short, lasting only one year. Following his service as Lieutenant Governor, he returned to private life in Norwalk.
His contributions to Connecticut politics were significant during his time. While not as widely known as some other figures from the period, his service reflects the political landscape of Connecticut in the mid-19th century, a time of significant change and development.
