John O'Brien (British politician)

John O'Brien was a British Labour Party politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Coventry North West from 1992 to 2010.

Born in 1946, O'Brien worked in the engineering industry before entering politics. He was a Coventry City Councillor prior to his election to Parliament.

During his time in the House of Commons, O'Brien served on various select committees, including the Trade and Industry Committee and the Defence Committee. He was known for his advocacy on issues related to manufacturing and employment, particularly within his constituency. He often spoke in Parliament on matters related to the automotive industry, given Coventry's historical connection to car manufacturing.

In the 2010 general election, O'Brien lost his seat to Geoffrey Robinson, who ran as an Independent Labour candidate. Robinson had previously been the MP for Coventry North West before O'Brien, and had re-entered politics after a period outside of Parliament.
