Jim Yarbrough (basketball)
Jim Yarbrough (born c. 1950-1951) is a retired American college basketball coach. He is best known for his tenure as the head men's basketball coach at Birmingham-Southern College from 1989 to 2007.
Yarbrough led Birmingham-Southern through its transition from NAIA to NCAA Division I status. He achieved significant success at the NAIA level, including multiple conference championships and national tournament appearances. Under Yarbrough's leadership, the Panthers successfully transitioned to Division I, joining the Big South Conference. He coached the team for several years at the Division I level before retiring.
Prior to Birmingham-Southern, Yarbrough coached at the high school level in Alabama. Details of his early coaching career are limited but establish a foundation before his collegiate career.
After retiring from coaching, Yarbrough remained involved in the Birmingham-Southern community. He is remembered for his impact on the basketball program and the lives of the student-athletes he coached.
