Jezercë
Jezercë is the highest peak in the Dinaric Alps, located in Albania. It stands at 2,694 meters (8,839 ft) high. The peak is situated within the Albanian Alps (also known as the Accursed Mountains or Prokletije) in the northern part of the country, near the border with Montenegro.
The name "Jezercë" translates to "lake place" or "place of lakes" in Albanian, referencing the numerous small lakes and glacial features found in the surrounding region.
Jezercë is a rugged and challenging mountain to climb, requiring technical mountaineering skills and experience. The terrain is characterized by steep, rocky slopes, loose scree, and potential for avalanches, particularly during the winter months. The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding Albanian Alps and into neighboring Montenegro and Kosovo.
Geologically, Jezercë is composed primarily of limestone and dolomite. The area is also known for its diverse flora and fauna, including various species of alpine plants and animals. Due to its remote location and challenging accessibility, the Jezercë region remains relatively unspoiled and retains its natural beauty. The first recorded ascent was in 1929 by Austrian alpinists.
