Jeevan (Hindi actor)
Jeevan (born Omkar Nath Dhar; 24 October 1915 – 10 June 1987) was an Indian actor, particularly known for his villainous roles in Hindi cinema. He acted in over 400 films across a career spanning from the 1930s to the 1980s.
Early in his career, Jeevan acted in mythological films, frequently portraying the role of Narad Muni, a celestial sage. He is recognized for having played Narad Muni in over 60 films.
Later, he transitioned into playing antagonists in mainstream Bollywood productions. His menacing on-screen presence and distinct voice contributed to his success as a villain. Some of his notable films include Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Heera Panna (1973), and Kashmir Ki Kali (1964). He often played the roles of smugglers, corrupt businessmen, and other morally reprehensible characters.
His performances helped to define the archetype of the Bollywood villain for several generations of moviegoers. Jeevan's contribution to Indian cinema is significant, not just for the sheer number of films he appeared in, but also for his impact on the portrayal of negative characters in the industry.
