Jean Back

Jean Back (born July 11, 1953 in Luxembourg City) is a Luxembourgish politician, lawyer, and film director. He is a member of the Democratic Party (DP).

Back studied law at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and the University of Aix-Marseille. He was admitted to the Luxembourg Bar in 1978.

He served as a member of the Luxembourg Parliament (Chamber of Deputies) from 1994 to 1999 and again from 2004 to 2013. During his time in parliament, he served on various committees, including the Committee on Legal Affairs and the Committee on Culture.

Beyond his political career, Back is also known for his work in filmmaking. He has directed several short films and documentaries, often focusing on Luxembourgish history and culture. His film, Histoire(s) de femmes, won the Best Documentary Award at the 1994 Max Ophüls Film Festival. He also directed D'Belle Époque (2012), a film about the steel industry in Luxembourg.
