James Lyall (minister)

James Lyall (1810-1891) was a Scottish minister of the Free Church of Scotland. He served as the minister of the Free Church in Galston, Ayrshire, from 1843 until his death.

Born in Paisley, Lyall was educated at the University of Glasgow. He was ordained as a minister in the Church of Scotland in 1834 and initially served in the parish of Cargill, Perthshire. He joined the Free Church of Scotland during the Disruption of 1843, a schism within the Church of Scotland primarily over the issue of patronage.

Lyall was a respected figure in the Free Church and known for his evangelical preaching and pastoral care. He was a strong advocate for education and was involved in the establishment of schools in his parish. He also played an active role in the wider affairs of the Free Church, serving on various committees. His ministry in Galston spanned nearly five decades, making him a significant figure in the local community and a prominent member of the Free Church of Scotland.

He is buried in Galston Cemetery.
