James Johnston (Northern Ireland politician)
James Johnston was a Northern Irish politician who served as a Unionist Member of Parliament (MP).
Johnston represented the constituency of North Armagh in the Parliament of Northern Ireland from 1969 until the parliament's abolition in 1972. He was a member of the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) and a prominent figure within the Orange Order.
His time in Parliament coincided with the height of the Troubles in Northern Ireland. He often spoke on issues relating to security, law and order, and the maintenance of Northern Ireland's constitutional position within the United Kingdom. He was a staunch defender of Unionist principles.
Following the abolition of the Parliament of Northern Ireland in 1972 and the imposition of Direct Rule from Westminster, Johnston did not seek election to the subsequent Northern Ireland Assembly or the Constitutional Convention. Information regarding his life and career after his parliamentary service is scarce in readily available public records.
