La Bulaqueña
La Bulaqueña (Spanish for "The Woman from Bulacan") is an iconic painting by Filipino painter Juan Luna. Completed in 1895, it portrays a formally dressed Filipina woman, traditionally believed to be a representation of a woman from the province of Bulacan, Philippines. The painting exemplifies Luna's style, combining European academic techniques with Filipino subject matter. It is celebrated for its depiction of Filipina beauty, grace, and dignity during the late 19th century. The woman in the painting is characterized by her refined features, elegant dress (often identified as a traditional "traje de mestiza"), and serene expression. "La Bulaqueña" is considered a significant masterpiece of Philippine art and a national cultural treasure. It is currently housed at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila.
