James Fall (priest)

James Fall (died 1711) was a Scottish Episcopal priest and historical writer. He served as the Principal of the University of Glasgow from 1690 until his deprivation in 1696, following the re-establishment of Presbyterianism in Scotland. Prior to his principalship, he held the position of rector of the Glasgow Grammar School. Fall was a staunch Episcopalian and a Jacobite sympathizer, aligning himself with the cause of the exiled Stuart monarchs. He is best known for his historical writings, particularly his account of the Scottish church and university life during the turbulent period of the late 17th century. His works offer a valuable perspective on the religious and political conflicts of the time. Following his dismissal from the University, he continued to serve as a minister in the Episcopal Church until his death. His writings were often partisan in nature, reflecting his strong religious and political convictions.
