Jackie Moore (baseball)

Jackie Moore (born February 10, 1932, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, died March 7, 2023, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana) was an American former professional baseball player, coach, and manager. He played primarily as a catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the St. Louis Cardinals (1958-1959), Chicago Cubs (1961-1963), and Houston Astros (1965-1967).

Moore began his professional career in the Cardinals' farm system. After his playing career, he transitioned to coaching, holding positions with the Houston Astros, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, and Montreal Expos. He served as the interim manager for the Astros in 1980 after the firing of manager Bill Virdon, leading the team to the National League Championship Series, where they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Moore was known for his defensive abilities as a catcher and his calm demeanor as a coach. After his time in professional baseball, he remained active in baseball-related activities and resided in Louisiana.
