Interstate 195 (New Jersey)

Interstate 195 (I-195) is an east–west auxiliary Interstate Highway located entirely within the state of New Jersey. It stretches for approximately 34.14 miles (54.94 kilometers) from its western terminus at I-295 in Hamilton Township, Mercer County, to its eastern terminus at New Jersey Route 138 and New Jersey Route 34 in Wall Township, Monmouth County.

I-195 primarily serves as a connector between the Trenton area and the Jersey Shore. It provides access to popular shore destinations such as Belmar, Asbury Park, and Point Pleasant. The highway also provides access to Six Flags Great Adventure theme park in Jackson Township.

The route is also known as the Central Jersey Expressway. The entire length of I-195 is a four-lane divided highway.

Planning for I-195 began in the 1960s, and construction occurred in stages throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The route was fully completed and opened to traffic in 1988.

Key junctions along I-195 include I-295, U.S. Route 130, U.S. Route 9, and the Garden State Parkway.

The highway is maintained by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT). The NJDOT is responsible for the upkeep of the roadway, signage, and related infrastructure. Traffic volume on I-195 varies depending on the location and time of year, with significantly higher volumes observed during the summer months due to increased tourism to the Jersey Shore.
