Hugh Buchanan (artist)

Hugh Buchanan (born 1958) is a Scottish watercolour artist, best known for his detailed and atmospheric architectural interiors, still lifes, and landscapes.

Buchanan studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1977 to 1981. His work is characterized by its meticulous draughtsmanship, subtle coloring, and use of light and shadow to create a sense of depth and atmosphere. He frequently depicts libraries, country houses, and other historic buildings, often focusing on the details of books, furniture, and architectural features.

Buchanan has exhibited extensively throughout the United Kingdom and internationally, and his work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Scotland, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Royal Collection. He has also undertaken commissions for a variety of clients, including the National Trust for Scotland, Historic Scotland, and private individuals.

He is considered one of Scotland's leading contemporary watercolour artists.
