University Hall (University of Illinois Chicago)
University Hall is the oldest building on the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) campus, located in the East Campus area. It is a thirteen-story Brutalist-style building originally constructed as a residence hall, hence its name. Designed by architect Walter Netsch of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the building was completed in 1965.
While initially intended as a dormitory, University Hall was converted to primarily office space for university administration and faculty during the 1970s. Currently, it houses various departments, including offices for the Chancellor, Provost, and other administrative units.
The building's distinctive architecture, characterized by its pre-cast concrete facade and repetitive modular design, is a notable example of the Brutalist style prevalent in mid-20th century architecture. It stands as a prominent landmark on the UIC campus.
