Herbert Zimmermann (1914-1966) was a renowned German radio sports commentator, best known for his passionate and dramatic live broadcast of the 1954 FIFA World Cup Final between West Germany and Hungary. His commentary during the match, particularly in the final minutes, is considered legendary in Germany and a defining moment in German broadcasting history.
Zimmermann's energetic and emotionally charged delivery, filled with iconic phrases such as "Aus! Aus! Aus! Das Spiel ist aus! Deutschland ist Weltmeister!" ("It's over! It's over! It's over! The game is over! Germany are World Champions!"), captured the excitement and national pride surrounding the unexpected victory of the West German team.
