American Pie (Groove Holmes album)
American Pie is a 1972 jazz album by organist Richard "Groove" Holmes. The album is notable for its title track, a soulful instrumental interpretation of Don McLean's popular song "American Pie." The album was released on the Flying Dutchman Records label. Besides the title track, the album includes Holmes' interpretations of other contemporary songs as well as original compositions. It showcases Holmes' signature Hammond organ sound and his ability to blend soul, blues, and jazz elements. The album, while not as widely known as some of Holmes' earlier work, is considered a solid example of his output during the early 1970s.
