Henry Porter (playwright)

Henry Porter (1928 – 2007) was a British playwright and screenwriter. He is perhaps best known for his play The Surveyor, which premiered in 1968 and explored themes of bureaucracy and social alienation.

Porter was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and educated at Trinity College Dublin. He began his writing career as a journalist before transitioning to playwriting. His work often focused on political and social issues, and he was known for his sharp dialogue and insightful character studies.

Other notable plays by Henry Porter include A Peer Behind (1971), Neville's Island (1996), and The Price of Everything (2003). He also wrote extensively for television, contributing scripts to popular series such as Z-Cars and Crown Court.

Porter’s plays have been performed internationally and have received critical acclaim. He is considered an important voice in British theatre, contributing significantly to the development of contemporary drama. He died in London in 2007.
