Henry Ott
Henry Ott (1925 – 2017) was a prominent American electrical engineer and consultant, widely regarded as an expert in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). He is best known for his influential book, Noise Reduction Techniques in Electronic Systems, first published in 1976, which has become a standard reference for engineers working to mitigate noise and interference in electronic designs.
Ott's contributions to the field of EMC include practical guidelines and rules of thumb for grounding, shielding, filtering, and signal integrity. His work emphasized understanding the fundamental physics of noise generation and propagation, enabling engineers to design robust and reliable electronic systems. He stressed the importance of addressing EMC issues early in the design process to avoid costly rework later.
Beyond his book, Ott published numerous articles and presented seminars on EMC topics. He was a sought-after consultant, advising companies on how to solve their EMC problems. He dedicated his career to educating engineers and promoting best practices in EMC design. His work continues to influence the field of electronic engineering.
